God is Good, All the Time. All the Time, God is Good

"For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen." - Romans 11:36

I've seen so many people give glory to creations rather than the Creator and turn their focus from Him. Yes, God's creations are beautiful and His blessings are nice. But we tend to look at these rather than God. He's the only reason these things exists. Jesus spoke the universe into the existence and created everything we know! So why do we often give so much attention to these things rather than the one who deserves it? "Do not love the world or the things in the world" (1 John 2:15).

Many prayers begin by thanking God for blessings. There's nothing wrong with this. But when most of the focus is on that, it's a problem. It's selfish to just thank God for what He's done in your life! He does not exist to just give us a bunch of things. He is not good because He blesses us. He's just good. "'No one is good - except God alone" (Mark 10:18). He deserves the attention. I know my focus has to be on Him.. When my focus is on things of this world, I fall. I prefer to begin my talks with God by admiring Him for who He is. When I think about Him and who He is, I am just in awe. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be in His presence.

Trip Lee said, "God’s glory is the big picture and the lesser beauties are just brush strokes." His blessings are meant to point to Him. If you look into Scripture, you will see God is simply amazing. There's power in His name alone. Think about it. When you hear somebody bring up God, you wouldn't react to it as if it was just another name. His character is worthy of praise. He's so great that we can never grasp His full essence. "Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom" (Psalm 145:3). Even the angels covered themselves in the presence of God's glory because He is so amazing. As beautiful as many things are, God is far more beautiful. And eternal satisfaction is found in God alone. Worship the Creator, not the creation. Jesus is the greatest blessing we will ever have. Thank God for being God!

Amen." -Romans 1:25 i'm sure you probally already know this verse, but just in case you don't haha. And i appreciate the blog, it relates to stuff i'm often dealing with. Praise God.

Reflections In The Fire

Hope is my center. Hope in God, who cares for both the body and soul. Hope for a better world. Hope for liberation. Hope for restoration. These past couple months I've spent a great deal of time reimagining what these look like as well as my place in all of this. And I'm always brought back to the idea of hope. Not in the sense of wishing for something, gambling with fate. But knowing that because of where my hope is, what I hope for will one day come, whether I get to see it fully bloom or not - hope deferred is still hope. In his farewell address, our beloved 44th President Barack Obama left us with this charge; words my heart resonated with because, even though he said this in the context of our participation in democracy and the political arena, that is what my life has been about for the past few years.
