Top 5 Moments of 2014

This past Sunday my friend Tim, who is our worship director at Harbor, preached on how we can look back at the faithfulness of God and be sure of His faithfulness to continue in the future. Ultimately, God's faithfulness is displayed at the cross but He also displays in our lives. As I reflect on how He worked in my life in these past year, here is a list of my top 5 moments.

1. Tell Me Yours Project

This project filled my heart. As I spent time reflecting on the people in my life who played a role in shaping who I am, I was so thankful for having those people and how God used them. And I was encouraged by the responses as well. Thank you all for being a part of my life! For more on this, check out my post about it here.

2. Young Life Camp

This is a highlight every year. I got spend a week at Lost Canyon this year with some of the craziest/funnest/coolest guys I know (even if they are from Scripps), doing ridiculous things and building deeper relationships with them. Every night at Young Life camp we have what is called a cabin time, which is a space for us to discuss God and life. This year I experienced the best cabin time I've ever had out of all the times I've gone to camp. That was a memory that I hold onto dearly and impacted me greatly. Overall, I had a great time with a bunch of people.

3. Ferguson

Definitely a tragic moment and it represents different things for different people, but this was a life changer for me. The killing of Mike Brown along with other events that followed and/or are related left my heart burdened but they were also a wake up call. Since August, it's been hard for me to go back to "regular life" whatever that is. I'm still trying to figure out how to respond to things like these. But it's led me to look to Christ as our hope as well as seek a greater understanding of the dynamics of race and justice.

4. Hector and Brigitta's Engagement

Two of my favorite people got engaged! It was kind of a surreal thing for me because it was a reminder of the reality that time flies and we are growing up (especially Hector). But to see one of my best friends take this step is dope. It's been cool to see their relationship develop as God worked in it/them, spend time with them, and even, in small ways, be a part of it. I'm definitely excited for them. I guess the wedding will be one of next year's top moments!

5. Coaching Track

Alright, I'm going to cheat a little since this is a season not a moment. And it's kind of unexpected because I also coach football and I like that sport more, but this was a cool time in my life. I enjoyed spending time with these athletes, getting to know them, seeing them develop, and of course becoming their favorite coach. Plus, it was great getting to do it alongside one of my favorite people. I'm excited to be back with them next Spring!

Honorable mention:
Winning a flag football championship in the pouring rain. It's all about the Superfriends baby.
