Three Little Birds

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

I am at peace. I would say that I'm a pretty stress free person compared to most. I don't worry too much about things that people usually do and even with all that I have on my plate, such as school and ministry, I don't ever really feel overwhelmed. For example, throughout the college admissions process, I wasn't really worried about where I was going to go and even as I was about to begin at UCSD I wasn't nervous. Some people called me crazy for this but I just knew that God was in control of things and still is. He's going to put me where He wants me and do what He wants with me. I trust Him with my life.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28, NIV). So why worry? He'll take care of it! He doesn't promise that all the bad things will go away, but He does promise to calm our seas, comfort us, and bring us peace and joy. Looking back through all the crap I've been through, everything He has done has only been to build me up. Yeah, it was tough but in the end, it never really harmed me. I've been able to accept what God does in my life because I know that's what He wants. But that doesn't mean just let things happen. We still have to act, obey, and do what God calls us to. With anything, just take it to God. Seek Him and allow Him to handle it.

God is the Creator and King of the universe. He is in control. And what's crazy is that, for being so big, He cares about us! "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" (Matthew 6:26) Jehovah Jireh. The Lord provides. I used to wake up and complain about being tired, but God got me through every single day. During school, I would be hungry, but God fed me every single day. I can go on and on, but the fact is, God never let's us down! God, who is so great, is by our side! "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31) Think about that! He is so much greater than this world and anything in it. In fact, Jesus said, "But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). We worry and complain about so much, but relax! Worrying doesn't really get you anywhere. We actually have it easy here in America. Even so, God is greater than any problem we may have. We shouldn't be telling God about our problems all the time, but telling our problems about God!

Trust in God. If you truly believe in Him for who He is and His promises, you have nothing to really worry about. The worst thing that can happen to you is that you die, but that's not even a bad thing! If your faith is in Christ, you'll be in Heaven and that's far better than anything on this earth. You can only gain.

Reflections In The Fire

Hope is my center. Hope in God, who cares for both the body and soul. Hope for a better world. Hope for liberation. Hope for restoration. These past couple months I've spent a great deal of time reimagining what these look like as well as my place in all of this. And I'm always brought back to the idea of hope. Not in the sense of wishing for something, gambling with fate. But knowing that because of where my hope is, what I hope for will one day come, whether I get to see it fully bloom or not - hope deferred is still hope. So though my faith may often be like the waves, I know that hope is that steady rock. My reality is grounded by my hope in the Heavens.
